Timeline for Successful College Admissions
The Discovery Prep School’s philosophy on college guidance is grounded in the belief that a high school ought not just prepare students for their college applications, but rather prepare them for their college experiences, experiences that will be diverse, meaningful, and specific to each student’s strengths and interests.
Discovery Prep offers numerous college planning events for parents and students. We help students define interests and provide college and career matching — taking into consideration students’ and families’ wishes in terms of field of study, location, size, activities, clubs and extra curricular activities, and more. We guide students through internships, apprenticeships, and summer academic opportunities that may enhance their life and perhaps increase success in gaining acceptance.
Discovery Prep’s personalized, boutique-style counseling program is modeled after The Grauer School’s renowned college placement achievements, which are the result of a holistic program that unfolds throughout the high school years. Every student receives the support necessary to find the right school, apply, and hopefully gain acceptance. We will work closely with students, parents, teachers and administrators to find the right fit.

Together, over scores of many private and group meetings, counselors and your student will evaluate student’s learning style, the all-important college essay, choice of major, school size, school setting, distance from home, reputation, and other variables in creating a list of colleges of which to apply. We strongly encourage students to visit campuses they are interested in and talk to students who actually attend. Beginning in 10th grade, students may go on at least one college expedition per year.
